Dear Coyle Public Schools Families and Community,
As we prepare to welcome students back for the 2026-2027 school year, I want to share several important updates and exciting opportunities that lie ahead for Coyle Public Schools.
First, we are pleased to welcome several new staff members to the Bluejacket family. Their experience, enthusiasm, and commitment to student success will help us continue providing high-quality educational opportunities for all students. Look for their welcome post on our school website and social media over the next few weeks. We are also excited to expand learning opportunities through the addition of our new STEM Program. This program will provide students with hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while preparing them for future academic and career opportunities. This program will eventually be housed in the new AgEd / STEM building which is under construction and still on schedule for a December 2026 completion date.
In an effort to better align instruction and support student success, we have made adjustments to our grade-level configurations. Beginning this year, 8th grade students will transition back into the Elementary building. This change will allow us to better align programming and prepare students for Oklahoma's evolving graduation requirements. Additionally, 5th grade students will move from the Middle School setting into a contained classroom environment. These adjustments will create additional opportunities for elective offerings at the secondary level while allowing us to strengthen our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and academic intervention efforts in the middle and high school grades.
Another significant change this year involves our cell phone procedures. In accordance with state requirements and our commitment to maximizing instructional time, Coyle Public Schools will continue implementing a Bell-to-Bell No Cell Phone Policy. To support this effort, the district has purchased Yondr pouches for all secondary students. During the first few days of school, students and staff will participate in training on the proper use of the Yondr system. Students will secure their phones at the beginning of the school day and unlock them at dismissal. We believe this approach will reduce distractions, increase engagement, and improve the overall learning environment for all students. Our Elementary and Middle School process has proven to be successful and remains the same for next year.
Perhaps the most significant change for the upcoming school year is our transition back to a traditional five-day school week. After nearly fifteen years of utilizing a four-day week and virtual instructional opportunities, the Oklahoma State Board of Education has required districts to return to a five-day instructional calendar and has eliminated virtual instruction days. While this change was not initiated locally, we embrace the additional time it provides us to teach, support, and engage with your children.
As we made this transition, we also carefully reviewed our daily schedule. Due to budget constraints and the increasing costs associated with transportation, utilities, and overtime, we have shortened the instructional day. Beginning this year, school will start at 7:55 a.m. and conclude at 3:05 p.m. Our entire schedule is attached below.
Over the past several years, our staff has utilized monthly virtual instructional days to strengthen our MTSS framework, collaborate on curriculum alignment, analyze student data, and improve schoolwide systems and processes. This work has been instrumental in the progress we have made as a district and remains critical as we continue working toward state literacy and academic goals through 2032.To ensure we do not lose this valuable collaboration time; Coyle Public Schools will implement a late-start schedule on Fridays. Students will report to school at 8:25 a.m., and bus routes will operate approximately 25 minutes later than normal. The school building and breakfast service will begin 25 minutes prior to the start of classes. This dedicated collaboration time allows our staff to continue refining instructional practices, monitoring student progress, and ensuring that every student receives the support needed to succeed.
The work we do together as educators, parents, and community members is what makes Coyle Public Schools special. We remain committed to providing a safe, supportive, and opportunity-filled learning environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Thank you for your continued support and for entrusting us with your children each day. We are honored to serve this community and look forward to another successful year at Coyle Public Schools.
Sincerely,
Colby W. Cagle
Superintendent
